Setting Up a Camping Tent Good Enough to Call Home

April 12, 2010 by Camping Dan · Leave a Comment

When you’re on the road and off camping, your camping tent will be sort of your home away from home. It’s only temporary, for as long as you’re enjoying the natural, outdoor experience. Most tents for camping are designed for the kind of life you deal with in the great outdoors. They’re simple, honest, and down to the basics.

If you’re going to call any kind of tent your home for at least a while, then they have to satisfy a few basic requirements. Beach tents are supposed to be waterproof in material and sturdy against the forces of wind. Dome tents are supposed to be well-lighted and meant to give you enough ventilation. They’re much like cabin tents, only these are furnished with more roof vents, sun screens, windows, and multi-rooms. These are the very features you would see in family camping tents which are larger and roomier.

Whether you go for a smaller-sized tent or a bigger-sized one, there are some rules which shouldn’t be bent. You should have all the mini-comforts of home in one given space. You should have all the privacy you need and all the safety features to keep you secure. You ought to be stocked up on enough supply of food, water, clothing, and medicine in addition to the shelter which you already have.

Last but not least, you should be able to enjoy your tent habitat without sharing it with other creatures. Forest intruders, seaborne animals, and other creepy crawly creatures should not suddenly appear out of nowhere. This holds true whether your camping tent zips from down to up or from the middle.

To help make this possible, it would also be good for you to clean up as you go. Leaving food scraps and open snacks would only be inviting to more pests which drive you to be impatient and irritated.

Not as irksome would be the accommodations provide by safe and secure family camping tents. There are brands of larger camping tents like Eureka and Coleman which provide you will all the features you need. Your stay in this home away from home will be comfortable and restful. You will have enough space and a particular corner to sleep in. You may even have a separate area for dining.

So before you consider and buy just any camping tent, you’d better size up its features first. Will its material suit the geographical location you are going to as to season and weather? Rain or shine, you have a choice between lightweight nylon and heavy-duty canvas. You have the support of a variety of tent lines, ropes, and pegs. Will its design give you all the ventilation, light, and shade that you need? Different models have assorted styles in their windows, sun screens, and roof vents. Most of all, will its size accommodate everyone in comfort and style? Sizes do range from family-sized, child-sized, and even pet-sized. That being said, your tent for camping could be you home away from home even just for a while.
